Will HDMI 2.1 Work With 2.0 Port – Read Before Purchase In 2022

Some experts suggest that the HDMI 2.1 cable can not work with HDMI 2.0 ports, but they are wrong.

Almost all standard ports in digital networking are backwards compatible, like a USB 3.0 drive will work on a USB 2.0 port (the problem would be some incompatibility between the devices).

In the same way, 2.1 will also work with the 2.0 port.

HDMI 2.1 Port

 

HDMI 2.1 is the new version of HDMI that supports higher resolutions, better bandwidth, and enhanced audio support.

It can support up to 10K resolution, which is four times the resolution of 4K.

HDMI 2.1 also has better bandwidth so that users can enjoy more immersive sound on their monitors.

For example, it can support up to 32 PCM sampled stereo audio channels while previous versions only supported 7.2 channels max.

Are HDMI 2.0 And 2.1 The Same Size?

HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.1 both use the same cable, but they have different video resolutions and frame rates supported by each standard version.

HDMI 2.0 can carry resolutions up to 10K and frame rates up to 120 frames per second with 18 gigabits per second bandwidth, whereas HDMI 2.1 has 48 Gbps.

Do you need HDMI 2.1 for 4K?

For most people, it is noticeable compared to the HDMI 1.4 and 2.0; however, you do not need this cable to support 4K.
